State regulators have made a move toward restricting the practice. The two workshop operators and 14 actors, who were caught on tape, filed suit March 12. They said the Walt Disney Co.-owned network and several of its high-profile employees are guilty of violating the strict wireless cctv privacy protection standards found in California. This is the latest in a number of legal disputes that have made hidden camera work and “reality” programming dangerous for businesses. Reality shows such as HBO’s “Taxicab Confessions” and the Sci-Fi Channel’s new program “Scare Tactics” have started using more hidden cameras, even though news organizations, stung by litigation, have grown shy of the practice.
